The 2017 Helsinki Comics Festival celebrates comic art in all its forms. This year the themes are South American comics and tango music. The international guests include José Muñoz (Argentina), Berliac (Argentina), Sarah Glidden (USA), Gilbert Shelton (USA), Dan Berry (UK), Leah Moore (UK) and Charlie Christensen (Sweden), and many many more. The festival artist is Hanneriina Moisseinen.
Organised by the Finnish Comics Society, Helsinki Comics Festival is the largest comics-related event in Finland and Northern Europe, welcoming over 20 000 visitors each year. The festival program consists of exhibitions, lectures, signings, competitions, and evening events.
The main venues of the festival are Kattilahalli and Tiivistämö, at Suvilahti. Present will be both mainstream and alternative publishers and artists from Finland and abroad. In addition, the festival will host a Zine Fest, dedicated to small press and self-published comics.
